Harold Doolittle started his IT career in 1987 with a manufacturing company running an IBM System/370 mainframe. From there he moved into Novell and Windows administration and engineering, and has followed the industry through every shift since: from closets full of physical servers to virtualized clusters, cloud storage, and immutable backup.

Built an ISP from zero

Harold founded 2K Hiway Internet Services in Brunswick County. He did the market research, specified the circuits and equipment, and built the network himself. The company grew from one employee to six and more than 1,800 customers, and placed second for Internet Provider in the 2009 Best of Brunswick Readers’ Choice Awards from The Brunswick Beacon. Alongside the ISP, he designed and deployed VMware and Windows infrastructure for consulting clients.

Enterprise engineering

As lead network engineer for a manufacturer with offices across the U.S. and overseas, Harold redesigned and rebuilt its VMware infrastructure, deployed its storage and offsite backup, and connected its offices with secure site-to-site VPNs for data, phone, and video.

Since 2017 he has engineered virtualization and backup environments for organizations across the country, working daily with VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Veeam, NAKIVO, and AWS.
